New Oils Provide
Maximum Protection for Manual Transmissions
Manual
Transmissions & Transaxles
Transmissions and transaxles are an assembly of gears and shafts
designed to transmit power to the drive wheels of vehicles. Power from
the engine is provided in the form of torque, or twisted force. The
amount of this force varies a great deal, depending on the individual
characteristics of the engine and the speed at which the engine is
running.
When the driver shifts a manual
transmission or transaxle, some gears disengage and others engage inside
the transmission. However, these gears are moving at different speeds
and could grind during shifting. Synchromesh components are used to
resolve this possible gear-grinding situation. A synchromesh system
equalizes the speed of each gear for smooth shifting without gear
grinding.
Some older manual transmissions do not
have synchronizers, requiring them to be “double clutched.” The statement
“If you cannot find ’em, grind ’em” typically applies to non-synchromesh
transmissions common to older cars, school busses and heavy-duty
equipment.
Lubrication
Proper lubrication is essential and plays a vital role in manual
transmissions and transaxles. The fluid must reduce gear and bearing
wear as well as provide smooth synchromesh engagements. Smooth shifting
reduces "bumpshifts," which occur when the shift lever bumps back out of
gear. Smooth shifting also minimizes gear grinding and extends
transmission life.
New AMSOIL
Manual Transmission/Transaxle Oils
MTG and
MTF meet and exceed the gear,
bearing, synchromesh and seal demands found in automobiles and light
trucks.
AMSOIL
Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (MTG) 75W-90 API
GL-4

AMSOIL
Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (MTG) is designed
to meet the special requirements of certain manual transmissions and
transaxles, such as the New Venture NV 4500. It is designed to replace
AMSOIL
80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (AGT) and provide improved internal component
protection. These transmissions are cast iron and have exhaust pipes
close to them, causing them to run hot. Increased operating temperatures
can harden seals and cause oil leaks. In addition to lubricating gears,
bearings and synchromesh systems, transmission oil must keep seals soft
even when temperatures increase. The premium synthetic formulation of
AMSOIL
Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube is designed to
specifically address the needs of these hot running transmissions.
MTG is formulated with extreme
pressure (EP) additives and advanced synchromesh qualities that provide
smooth shifts while protecting gears, bearings and seals. It is not
corrosive to yellow metals, such as copper, that are used in some
synchromesh systems. MTG provides the maximum transmission and transaxle
internal component
protection.
Applications
MTG is recommended for synchronized manual transmissions and transaxles
that require 75W-85, 75W-90 or 80W-90 API GL-4 gear lube. It is
recommended for use in NV 4500 transmissions and replaces GM part #
12346190 and Chrysler part # 4874459 (Chrysler specification MS-9070).
MTG meets GL-4 performance specifications required by some models of
Acura, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi-Fuso
and Zetor. It is ideal for muscle car transmissions, including Muncie,
Borg Warner, Saginaw, Ford Toploader,
Dearborn and New Process.
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) 5W-30
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) is specifically designed
for manual transmissions and transaxles with synchromesh systems that
require light viscosity, non-extreme pressure fortified oil. It is
formulated with advanced additive technology to provide proper friction
characteristics for smooth shifting without grinding or bump shifting,
while providing the ultimate in gear and bearing protection. MTF
provides far better protection in these manual transmissions than motor
oils and is the recommended replacement for
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic
5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (HDD) in transmission applications.

Superior Hot
and Cold Temperature Performance
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) outperforms conventional
oils and protects internal components at extreme temperatures from -40°F
to 300°F. It controls the thinning effects of mechanical shear for
stable viscosity and superior film strength, providing better antiwear
performance than conventional oils.
Customized
Additives
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) contains friction
modifiers for superior synchronizer compatibility and smooth shifting.
It is non-corrosive to yellow metals, and its outstanding anti-wear
properties protect gears and bearings under severe duty. MTF is
anti-foam fortified and contains oxidation inhibitors to resist high
temperatures, oxidation, acid buildup and varnish deposits.
Applications
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) is recommended for
automotive and light truck applications that require synchromesh
transmission fluid. Applications include manual transmissions and
transaxles such as New Venture NV T350, NV 1500, NV 3500, NV 3550, MV
5600 and Termec T-4, T-5, T-18 and T-176. MTF is a SAE 5W-30, however,
it is not for use in engines or wet clutches.
AMSOIL
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) replaces GM part #
1234349, 12345577, 12377916 and 1052931 as well as Chrysler part #
4874464 and 4874465. It meets GM specifications 9985648, 9986105 and
9985535 and Chrysler MS-9224 and MS-9417.
Currently, automotive dealers sell manual transmission gear oils and
fluids to customers at a high cost. AMSOIL
Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (MTG) and
Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) are specifically designed
for use in manual transmissions and manual transaxles. They replace
certain GM and Chrysler products at significantly lower prices and are
readily available, unlike GM and Chrysler branded products.
