AMSOIL
Lubes Withstand Severe Service Demands
Michael Brandolini of North Weymouth, Mass.,
knows that when he hits the open road on his bike, he can count on the

This past August, Brandolini and two riding
buddies left Boston for a week-long touring trip south to the Blue Ridge
Parkway. Brandolini rides a 2001 FLHT Harley Davidson and both of his friends

Brandolini said, “and am always raving to my buddies over its performance.”
Brandolini’s friends were difficult to
convince at first. “They would comment that ‘all oils are the same’ and tell me
that I am wasting my money,” Brandolini said. “They both run brand name
petroleum oil.”
The trip that the friends had planned covered
over 2,800 miles in one week. During much of the trip temperatures reached over
100 degrees, especially while the group passed through North Carolina. “My
engine oil ran at a consistent 190 degrees throughout the trip,” Brandolini
said, “although I do have the added protection of an oil cooler on the bike.”
Brandolini noticed that during the trip both of his friends had to add nearly
four quarts of oil each to their bikes.
Upon returning home and performing an oil
change, Brandolini measured his bike’s drain oil and discovered that the total
oil consumption for his entire trip was only eight ounces. “And that much was
probably just trapped in the
oil filter,” he said.
“Needless to say, my partners were
speechless,” Brandolini said. “They still won’t admit that there is a
difference between using a high-quality synthetic and petroleum oils. Well, I am
convinced, and I have since converted all my fluids in the bike and my truck
